Do you ever feel trapped in an endless cycle of intrusive thoughts? Do you find yourself compulsively trying to stop those thoughts? You could be experiencing symptoms of OCD. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder consists of obsessive thoughts, urges, or images that are unwanted or intrusive and compulsions that are repetitive behaviors or mental acts in response to those obsessions. Compulsions are often used in the hopes of reducing anxiety caused by obsessive thoughts.
Ashgrove Counseling specializes in Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) to treat OCD symptoms. ERP is an evidenced-based treatment used to help clients face their distressing thoughts while also learning to reduce compulsive behaviors. Over time, ERP can help reduce intrusive thoughts and lessen anxiety.
It's normal to worry sometimes, but do you ever find yourself worrying constantly? Does that worry get in the way of your daily life? Do you feel unable to control that worry or find yourself worrying about worry? You may have Generalized Anxiety. GAD is characterized by extreme worry about multiple things (relationships, finances, school, work, etc.) that is persistent and debilitating.
At Ashgrove Counseling we use a mixture of Exposure Therapy and skill building to help clients combat symptoms. Specific skills, such as learning to problem solve, emotional awareness, and mindfulness, can help reduce your worry and allow you to live in the present moment.
Do you often find yourself worrying how others perceive you? Do you plan out what you want to say when talking to others? Do you ruminate about past social interactions? This could be a sign of Social Anxiety. Social Anxiety is characterized by fear of judgement, scrutiny, or embarrassment in social situations. This can often lead to intense anxiety and an avoidance of social interactions.
Ashgrove Counseling uses both Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients with Social Anxiety to reduce distress in social situations and challenge unhelpful thought patterns.
Have you experienced or witnessed one or more traumatic events? Do you sometimes feel trapped in the memory of those events? Do you feel hypervigilant, irritable, anxious, or detached from reality? You could be experiencing symptoms of PTSD.
At Ashgrove Counseling we utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address symptoms of PTSD and trauma. EMDR is a psychotherapy that allows clients to heal from symptoms of trauma by helping the brain reprocess trauma using detailed protocols and procedures to activate the natural healing process.
